Nicole Ari Parker, an American actress who has been featured in films and on television, in addition to in stage productions, is known for playing Teri Joseph, a fiery lawyer in the show Showtime's Soul Food. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. At a Maryland high school competition during her first years of training, she was awarded the title for the most outstanding actress. The path to acting began when she worked in the Washington Ballet Company and the theater. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her first role in a film of major importance, was a huge success and earned her the admiration of many. Contractor who was brought up by his parents from Nigeria and Mumbai before he turned 7years old, traveled all over the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where she lived the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career at the University of Toronto Toronto while also training as a ballerina. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school where she was not just a dancer but also studied theatre. At the age of 16 after a decade of years of dance Contractor discovered she was looking to study acting professionally. As soon as she finished her high school education, she was awarded a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and also double majored with sociology and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the production Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the leading role. She received rave reviews for her performance during the 92 performances that in the production. It was also voted as the best production by Canadian reviewers in 2002. The conservatory at Stratford accepts eight men as well as four females along with a couple of additional people to take a 20 week crash course. The actress's spot in the next stage season was securing and she won the role of Hermia.
